Sinus Lift

A sinus lift, also called sinus augmentation, is a bone grafting procedure that adds height to the upper back jaw. The maxillary sinuses sit directly above the upper molars, and when those teeth have been missing for a while the bone beneath the sinus thins out. Without enough bone height there is nowhere to anchor an implant — a sinus lift rebuilds that foundation so implant treatment becomes possible.

During the procedure, Dr. Emer accesses the area, gently lifts the sinus membrane upward, and places graft material into the space created below it. Platelet-Rich Fibrin drawn from your own blood is often added to accelerate healing and support new bone formation. We plan every case in advance with 3D Rayscan CBCT imaging so we know the exact anatomy of your sinus and the precise amount of graft needed before we begin.

The grafted bone needs several months to mature before implants are placed, and we monitor that healing with follow-up imaging. Many patients who have been told elsewhere that they are not candidates for upper implants are able to move forward after a sinus lift. Because we perform both the grafting and the implant placement in our Kennesaw office, there is no referral out and no handoff between offices.
